Safety and Roadworhty Certification in Maroochydore

If you are looking for a Queensland Safety Certificate or Roadworthy Certificate, then you need to contact our fully licensed Maroochydore workshop to perform an inspection and issue the necessary certificate.

At Marjac Automotive, we can provide an inspection and Roadworthy Certificate to ensure the vehicle meets the necessary minimum safety standards and offers buyers better protection, reducing the likelihood of accidents caused by defective vehicles.

What does a Safety Certificate cover?

The Safety Certificate is designed to make sure the vehicle is safe for use, and will check for items such as brakes, body damage, body rust, lights, steering, suspension, tyres and windscreens.

It is important to note that the inspection is not a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle or the engine, and it is recommended that buyers should contact Marjac Automotive for a full mechanical inspection of the vehicle before purchasing it.

It is the responsibility of the seller to provide the Safety Certificate and to complete any necessary repairs that must be completed before the certificate can be issued - buyers should not be asked to obtain their own Safety Certificate.

When is a Safety Certificate required?

In Queensland, Safety Certificates are required when registering a new vehicle, or when changing the registered owners of a vehicle.

If the vehicle has been un-registered for more than three months, or is being registered from interstate, then it must pass a safety inspection and receive a Safety Certificate before it can be registered.

After a failed initial inspection, any repairs required must be completed within 14 days or 1,000km, whichever comes first. Once the inspection has passed, or on the first go, the Safety Certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000km, whichever comes first.

Does my vehicle need a Safety Certificate?

All second hand, unregistered, or registered interstate vehicles require a Safety Certificate as part of the pre-registration process.

This includes cars, motorbikes, trailers, caravans and other vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM). Additionally, all cars fitted with LPG require a Gas Certificate to be issued by a licensed gas fitter (in addition to the Safety Certificate).

What parts of my car will be inspected?

The Safety Certificate checklist covers seats and restraints, lamps and electrical components, windscreens and glazing, body, chassis and frame, tow couplings, steering and suspension, wheels and tyres, brakes, engine, driveline and emissions, vehicle safety features, passenger transport, and modifications.

How much does the Safety Certificate inspection cost?

The cost of a Safety Certificate inspection is controlled by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, so if you feel that you have been quoted an incorrect price then be sure to contact Marjac Automotive for the correct cost.

When is the safety certificate not needed?

Queensland Transport regulations provide exemptions from needing a Safety Certificate in certain situations, such as when a vehicle is being traded to or between licensed motor dealerships, being sold for parts, having been inherited from a deceased estate, or being traded between spouses, including separated couples.

Additionally, the disposer of the vehicle must live in an exempt area for the Safety Certificate to not be required.

In place of the Roadworthy Certificate (RWC), the QLD Department of Transport utilises the term Safety Certificate, which must be issued by an Approved Inspection Station (AIS) like Marjac Automotive.
